DEX (Decentralized Exchange)
A DEX is an exchange that runs entirely on-chain — users keep custody of their assets and trade by calling smart contracts. Two main models exist: AMMs (Uniswap, Curve) which use liquidity pools, and on-chain order books (Hyperliquid, dYdX) which match orders directly. Hyperliquid is one of the few orderbook-based DEXes with throughput comparable to centralized venues.
