AMM (Automated Market Maker)
An AMM is a smart contract that quotes prices based on token reserves in a pool rather than matching individual buy and sell orders. The most common model uses a constant product formula (x * y = k), pioneered by Uniswap. AMMs trade simplicity for capital efficiency: anyone can provide liquidity, but pool liquidity can be heavily concentrated outside the active price range.
