DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)
A DAO is an organization whose decisions are made by token-holder votes executed by smart contracts. In practice most DAOs run a hybrid model: governance tokens vote on proposals on-chain (often through Snapshot off-chain polls first), but a smaller team handles the day-to-day. The legal status of DAOs remains unclear in most jurisdictions.
