Minting
Minting is the creation of new tokens or NFTs by calling a smart contract's mint function. For ERC-20s it increases total supply; for ERC-721s it creates a new token ID. Whether minting is open to anyone, gated by a whitelist, or restricted to the contract owner depends entirely on how the contract was written.
