Proof of Work (PoW)
In proof-of-work, miners compete to find a hash below a difficulty target, and whoever finds it first proposes the next block. The model is robust and battle-tested but expensive in electricity, which is why most newer chains use proof-of-stake instead. Bitcoin remains the largest proof-of-work network.
